An Easy Walk to Your London Hostel by Sam Brown
The Center of the largest city in the European Union is surprisingly compact and easy to tour on foot, so, after finding a London hostel put on your walking shoes and start the tour.
Almost all key tourist attractions are at the most one mile away from the Charing Cross junction, the official center of London, on the southern end of Trafalgar Square. From here, across the Hungerford Bridge you cross to South Bank, where you will see the London Eye – one of the largest panoramic roundabouts in the world. South Bank is increasingly becoming a tourist center of London, although it shares that title with Covent Garden whose Piazza is always full of life. London Underground – Tube is very reliable as well as the buses, keep in mind that you will save a significant amount of money if you don’t buy individual tickets but pay for transport with the Oyster card which you get at metro stops. Since some of the things in London can be expensive you can also save money by getting a room in one of the London hostels. When you are in London you have to see the art deco structure, known as the Oxo Tower and on the last, 8th floor, there is a French style cafe and an expensive restaurant and between them a gallery with a spectacular view of Central London and West End. Admission is free, and gallery is open every day until 10 at night. Take a walk on the South Bank promenade, go west from the Oxo Tower and stop by the Royal National Theatre or the main cinema in town, the National Film Theatre where you’ll find an excellent cafe. Then change the level and take the steps up to the Hayward Gallery. Stroll through the Royal Festival Hall where you can usually, for free, attend a show, and then descend to the wharf. For a quick bite stop by the Heddon Street which is hidden from most people who shop in the popular Regent St. Heddon Street has a variety of restaurants, from French and Italian to vegetarian where dishes are paid by weight at the price of £18 for a kilogram. However, if you wish for something exotic, stop by Momo where many exotic Moroccan specialties are served, from falafels to pigeon meat. And for an express lunch order meat balls in a pie with mint tea or if you have time, stay a little longer and order nargila.
