Vehicle Makers Lobbying For Distractions To Be Built In
In the 1980′s, cup holders were anything in vehicle sales. Driver distraction could possibly be a serious problem with the latest feature race in vehicles. While keeping your eyes on the road should be the first concern of any driver, it is apparently more difficult than ever.
How the cup holder race started
cars started doing the cup holder arms race years ago. In the 1980s, it started. The cup holder’s number, size and placement may have started the minivan revolution. Several attribute this to it. There were vehicles that started to make all models with cup holders. Most vehicles followed this. Now, cup holders can be found in even the most basic new cars. The Honda Fit, for instance, comes with an average of 1.8 cup holders per passenger.
Distracted driving problems
On board technology is something manufacturers don’t want to be part of the distracted driving legislation. Most of these companies have been lobbying for a change. Audio systems make it hard for a driver to drive including OnStar, Ford Sync, Chevy Cruze system, on board screen and video systems. No matter what, a distraction is a distraction. It does not matter if it helps the driver keep hands on the wheel as manufactures argue makes it okay. The technology will become standard in most cars as it becomes more popular.
Finding a way to get distracted driving to end completely
Distracted driving is something most states are trying to get taken away. While driving, some states have it illegal to talk on the phone or text. It is illegal in general for most places to have distracting driving. Several vehicle makers try to make sure the legislation excludes systems such as OnStar. The lobbying for autos is very strong though. More than likely, federal legislation won’t consist of these systems in it as expected.
