Looking for a GPS and I’m not sure where to start looking, help!?
Hey i looking for a GPS for my car and for myself, but i am totally clueless…. im not sure which brand to get or anything, however i was obsessed in getting the Mio Knight rider GPS but im sure that’s outdated… so my questions are:
1) What brand is reliable?
2) Can i upload voices into that brand but going to a website?
3) Can i use the internet with it? or install windows or something so i can browse the web check out my bank balance, grades, stuff that has nothing to do with the GPS?
please answer each one, i’m in serious need of help! thank you!!! anyone who answers them all 3 will get 10 free points! Thank you in advance!
Garmin, TomTom, and Magellan are all reliable and probably the best known name brands of GPS units. There are some units specifically manufactured for aftermarket vehicle operation and some for marine and aviation applications that are also reliable. Ther best combination of price, ease of use, and avilable features is very likely TomTom with Garmin a close 2nd.
TomTom allows the installation of “voices” from both their design and from third-party providers. With Garmin you have a more limited choice. If having access to lots of different and cute voices is very important, TomTom is probably a better choice. But even the least expensive Garmin that includes “text-to-speech” will have several “voices” that you can switch between.
I don’t know of any dedicated GPS that includes the capability to install alternate operating systems. There are some GPS receivers that are made to interface with a laptop computer or PDA that allows such capability along with internet connection. You can usually do anything with them that you can do with any internet connected computer.
I’d recommend that you browse the GPS store or some other reseller and see exactly which unit(s) include the features most important to you and that are in within your budget.
