South African Holidays And Tours Throughout The Year
South African holidays and tours can be arranged through a number of excellent websites that allow people to book online from anywhere in the world. In dismal weather in January Europeans can contemplate pictures of warmth, sunny skies and large open spaces, then book a year in advance and return often to mull over future pleasures.
South Africa has a mild climate and during the summer months, from November to April the summer rains have made the vegetation green and refreshing, especially along the eastern side of the country. The northern hemisphere is enduring cold winter months at this time, so many people do escape to warm beaches where they can sunbathe and surf.
Spring on South African is not a period of sudden robust growth, as it is in Europe. Warmer days encourage plants to shoot, and then they must wait for the rains to fall. Peach trees are everywhere and in spring they put out their pink blossoms as the first flags to signify the end of winter. In preparation for the new season many people burn off rank grass of the previous summer. The countryside lies blackened by fire but when the first rains come the rolling hill turn bright green with new grass.
Nowhere in the country are the spring flowers more prolific that in the north western cape province. Purple, pink, red, orange and white and blue sprout in profusion out of the dry earth where they have lain dormant. During the ‘wild flower season’ tours are arranged from Cape Town, through purple and pink mountains to the plains where the wild flowers make their brief appearance before fading back into the earth.
Autumn in South Africa is a beautiful season as leaves turn gold and the grass is red. The air is cool but not yet cold and in the Mountains there is great hiking, fishing and rock climbing. Mountain ranges run the length of the country forming a long spine which is a watershed, with rivers running west into the Atlantic and east into the Indian Ocean.
People from Japanese and European cities often come to South Africa in order to experience the big game animals roaming wild in the veld. The Kruger National Park in the north east and the Addo elephant in the south east are the two best known parks but there are many others that afford excellent game viewing drives that set out from comfortable resorts and lodges.
People who are embarking on South African holidays and tours are sometimes alarmed by stories that they hear about risks to their personal safety. However, there is ample evidence to suggest that the country is quite as safe as other countries, especially if well organized tours are booked online through reliable agents.

Natural Symbols in South East Asia $44.95 This book is based on the second of two series of open lectures given in the Centre of South East Asian Studies in the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London during the session 197576. The first of these, Nature and Man in South East Asia, ran from October to December 1975. The second, Natural Symbols in South East Asia, ran from January to March 1976. The hope that both series would be coherent and independent, and that each would complement the other, was in the main realised and the editors are thus able to present the published versions as companion volumes. The Department of South East Asia and the Islands at S.O.A.S., which had long had close relations with other departments of the School, notably those of History, Linguistics and Anthropology, was given new opportunities by the formation in the 1960s of a Centre of South East Asian Studies which strengthened existing personal and academic links. More recently the recruitment of scholars from other disciplinespolitics, geography and jurisprudencehas greatly increased the resources of the School in the South East Asian region. |

South East Asia in the World-Economy $30 South East Asia has for many centuries occupied a pivotal position in the wider Asian economy, linking China and the Far East with India and the Middle East, and since the early 1500s the region has also played a major role in the world-economy. South East Asia in the World-economy is a textbook survey of the area's interaction with these wider regional and international structure. Professor Chris Dixon demonstrates how this region's role has undergone frequent and profound chance as a result of the successive emergency and dominance of mercantile, industrial and finance capital. He shows how the region has developed as a supplier of luxury product, such as spices; as a producer of bulk primary products; and how, since the mid 1960s, it has become a major recipient of investment and a favoured location for European and American markets. The author examines how these phases in the evolution of the international economy have been reflected in the relations of evolution of the production and in the spatial pattern of economic activity. He also discusses how the progressive integration of South East Asia in the world-economy has established the dominance of a small number of core areas and produced a pattern of uneven development throughout the region. In a concluding chapter, Chris Dixon explores the prospects for South East Asia in the 1990s in the light of the restructuring of the world-economy. |
